Renal hormones causing vasoconstriction in the arterioles:
- Renal hormones such as angiotensin II and aldosterone play a significant role in causing vasoconstriction in the arterioles.
- Angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor that acts on the smooth muscle cells of the arterioles to increase peripheral vascular resistance.
- Aldosterone, another renal hormone, acts on the kidneys to increase sodium reabsorption, leading to an increase in blood volume and subsequently vasoconstriction in the arterioles.
These renal hormones are part of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) which regulates blood pressure and fluid balance in the body. When these hormones are released in response to low blood pressure or low blood volume, they cause vasoconstriction in the arterioles to help maintain adequate blood flow to vital organs.

Vasodilation is the widening of blood vessels. It results from relaxation of smooth muscle cells within the vessel walls, particularly in the large veins, large arteries, and smaller arterioles. The process is the opposite of vasoconstriction, which is the narrowing of blood vessels. Two kidney hormones, angiotensin II and vasopressin, are powerful vasoconstrictors.
