    • Multidimensional Poverty Index: The Multidimensional Poverty Index was launched by the UNDP and the OPHI in 2010. MPI is based on the idea that poverty is not one-dimensional (not just depends on income and one individual may lack several basic needs like education, health, etc.), rather it is multidimensionai. The index shows the proportion of poor people and the average number of deprivations each poor person experiences at the same time.
    • MPI uses three dimensions and ten indicators which are:
      • Education: Years of schooling and child enrollment (1/6 weightage each, total 2/6);
      • Health: Child mortality and nutrition (1/6 weightage each, total 2/6);
      • Standard of living: Electricity, flooring, drinking water, sanitation, cooking fuel and assets (1/18 weightage each, total 2/6) A person is multi-dimensionally poor if she/he is deprived in one-third or more (means 33% or more) of the weighted indicators (out of the ten indicators). Those who are deprived in one-half or more of the weighted indicators are considered living in extreme multidimensional poverty. MPI is significant as it recognizes poverty from different dimensions compared to the conventional methodology that measures poverty only from the income or monetary terms. So, only options (2) and (3) are correct.
    Therefore, the correct answer is c.

    Which of the following indicators are used in calculating Multi-dimen...
    The correct answer is option 'C': 2 and 3 only.

    The Multi-dimensional Poverty Index (MPI) is a measure of poverty that goes beyond income-based measures by taking into account multiple deprivations that people may experience, such as lack of education, healthcare, and living standards. The MPI is calculated using several indicators, and in this case, the indicators used are nutrition and access to electricity.

    1. Maternal mortality: This indicator measures the number of deaths of women due to complications during pregnancy, childbirth, or within six weeks after delivery. While maternal mortality is an important health indicator, it is not used in calculating the MPI.

    2. Nutrition: This indicator measures the proportion of the population that is undernourished or malnourished. It takes into account factors such as calorie intake, protein consumption, and the prevalence of stunting, wasting, and underweight among children. Nutrition is one of the key indicators used in calculating the MPI as it reflects the overall well-being and health status of individuals.

    3. Access to electricity: This indicator measures the proportion of the population that has access to electricity. It considers both urban and rural areas and takes into account the reliability, affordability, and sustainability of electricity services. Access to electricity is used in calculating the MPI as it is an important determinant of living standards and quality of life.

    4. Access to telephone: This indicator measures the proportion of the population that has access to telephone services. It includes both fixed-line and mobile telephones. While access to telephone services is important for communication and connectivity, it is not used in calculating the MPI.

    In summary, the indicators used in calculating the Multi-dimensional Poverty Index (MPI) are nutrition and access to electricity. Maternal mortality and access to telephone are not used in the calculation of the MPI.
