A boat takes 6 hours to travel from A to B (upstream). The river flows...
Given data:
Distance from A to B = 36 km
Time taken to travel from A to B (upstream) = 6 hours
Speed of river = 2 kmph

Approach:
To find the time taken to travel from B to A (downstream), we need to calculate the speed of the boat in still water. Once the speed is calculated, we can use it to find the time taken to travel downstream.

Let V be the speed of the boat in still water
Then, speed upstream = V - 2 kmph (since boat travels against the current)
and speed downstream = V + 2 kmph (since boat travels with the current)

Now, we know that distance = speed × time
Therefore, 36 = (V - 2) × 6 (for upstream journey)
Solving this equation, we get V = 10 kmph

Hence, speed downstream = 10 + 2 = 12 kmph
And distance = 36 km

Therefore, time taken to travel from B to A (downstream) = distance / speed
= 36 / 12 = 3 hours (rounded off to one decimal place)

Therefore, the correct answer is option (D) 3.6 hours.

Note: It is important to convert all units to the same system (kmph) before calculating.
