    • Blue tide is a phenomenon due to bioluminescence, which is the emission of light by microscopic marine plants, called phytoplanktons, e.g., dinoflagellates. The blue light stems from chemical reactions of proteins inside the organism. The sparkling light appearing in the sea from the micro- organisms is called bioluminescence. The bioluminescence is usually higher in deep living organisms than the shallow species. Bioluminescence is controlled by a circadian clock and only occurs at night.
    • During the night time the number of species is high. The smaller blooms are not harmful. Basically, it is an anti-predatory response. Also, bioluminescence helps the micro-organisms to gather together easily and form colonies.
    • The smaller blooms of micro-organisms are not harmful. On the other hand, the slow- moving larger blooms have impact on deep sea fishing. Their colonies become larger only when the nitrogen presence is higher and dissolved oxygen content is lower. This environment is highly dangerous for the fish, as they mainly survive on oxygen. This happens due to fertilizer run off and discharge of untreated sewage into the oceans. Therefore, larger blue tide indicates deteriorating ocean ecosystem. Bioluminescence is not common in India. In India, we can find bioluminescence in Lakshadweep, Goa and Mumbai.

With respect to “Blue Tides”, consider the following statements: It...
    Introduction:
The phenomenon of "Blue Tides" is a natural occurrence characterized by the presence of glowing blue water caused by bioluminescent marine plants, such as dinoflagellates. This phenomenon is often associated with a flourishing ocean ecosystem. Blue tides are commonly observed on the eastern coast of India.

    Explanation:
Let us analyze each statement given in the question and determine their correctness.

Statement 1: It is a phenomenon due to bioluminescence, which is the emission of light by microscopic marine plants, like dinoflagellates.
This statement is correct. Blue tides occur as a result of bioluminescence, which is the ability of certain marine organisms, such as dinoflagellates, to emit light. These organisms produce light through a chemical reaction within their cells, creating a mesmerizing glowing effect in the water.

Statement 2: Larger blue tide indicates a flourishing ocean ecosystem.
This statement is incorrect. The size of the blue tide does not necessarily indicate the health or flourishing of the ocean ecosystem. Blue tides can occur in different sizes, and their occurrence may depend on various factors such as nutrient availability, temperature, and water currents. While a larger blue tide may suggest the presence of a higher concentration of bioluminescent organisms, it does not directly reflect the overall health of the ecosystem.

Statement 3: It is commonly seen on the eastern coast of India.
This statement is correct. Blue tides are frequently observed on the eastern coast of India. The coastal areas of states like Odisha and West Bengal experience the mesmerizing glow of blue tides during specific periods, often attracting tourists and visitors.

    Conclusion:
In conclusion, statement 1 and statement 3 are correct while statement 2 is incorrect. Blue tides are a phenomenon caused by bioluminescence and are commonly observed on the eastern coast of India. However, the size of the blue tide does not directly indicate the flourishing of the ocean ecosystem.
