  • Putin was appointed as the head of the Federal Security Service (FSB), the KGB's successor agency, in 1998 and served in that position until 1999.

  • He was appointed as Prime Minister of Russia by President Boris Yeltsin in 1999 and became Acting President after Yeltsin's resignation on December 31, 1999.

  • Putin was elected President of Russia in 2000, and he served two consecutive terms until 2008.

  • After serving as Prime Minister under President Dmitry Medvedev from 2008 to 2012, Putin was elected President again in 2012 and 2018.
