MENTION THE STEPS TAKEN BY THE SRI LANKA GOVT. TO ACHIEVE MAJORITARIAN...
Steps taken by Sri Lanka government to achieve majoritarianism:

1. Introduction of the Sinhala Only Act: In 1956, the Sri Lankan government introduced the Sinhala Only Act, which made Sinhala the official language of Sri Lanka. This move marginalized the Tamil minority, who were mainly concentrated in the north and east of the country.

2. Discrimination against Tamils: The government discriminated against Tamils in various ways, including limiting their access to education and government jobs. This made it difficult for Tamils to advance in society and reinforced their status as a minority group.

3. Imposition of Emergency Regulations: In 1971 and again in 1983, the Sri Lankan government imposed emergency regulations that suspended civil liberties and allowed the government to detain and torture suspected terrorists. These regulations were disproportionately applied to Tamils, further marginalizing them and reinforcing their status as a minority group.

4. Violent Suppression of Tamil Uprising: In 1983, the Sri Lankan government launched a violent suppression of a Tamil uprising, which resulted in the deaths of thousands of Tamils. This further reinforced the idea that the government was committed to majoritarianism and was willing to use violence to maintain its power.

5. Establishment of Buddhist Nationalism: The Sri Lankan government has also promoted the idea of Buddhist nationalism, which emphasizes the dominance of the Sinhalese majority and marginalizes other ethnic and religious groups. This has reinforced the idea of majoritarianism and made it difficult for minority groups to assert their rights.

In conclusion, the Sri Lankan government has taken a number of steps to achieve majoritarianism, including introducing the Sinhala Only Act, discriminating against Tamils, imposing emergency regulations, violently suppressing Tamil uprisings, and promoting Buddhist nationalism. These actions have marginalized minority groups and reinforced the idea that Sri Lanka is a Sinhalese-majority country.
