- Rivers dried up: The drying up of rivers, which were a crucial water source for these cities, played a significant role in their decline. Without access to sufficient water for agriculture and daily use, the cities struggled to sustain their populations.
- Grazing of green cover by herds of cattle: This is not one of the reasons for the decline of Harappa and Mohenjodaro. While overgrazing and destruction of green cover can lead to soil degradation and desertification, there is no evidence to suggest that this was a primary factor in the downfall of these ancient cities.
