Introduction:
It is a well-known fact that all living organisms require energy to carry out their life processes. But have you ever wondered where this energy comes from? The answer is the sun.

Photosynthesis:
The sun is the ultimate source of energy for all life on earth. This is because plants and other photosynthetic organisms convert the energy from the sun into a form that can be used by other organisms. This process is called photosynthesis. Animals that eat other animals are called carnivores and they derive their energy from the herbivores they consume. This process of energy transfer from one organism to another is known as a food chain.

Energy pyramid:
An energy pyramid is a graphical representation of the amount of energy that is transferred from one trophic level to another in a food chain. At the base of the pyramid are the primary producers (plants) that convert the sun’s energy into glucose. As we move up the pyramid, the amount of available energy decreases because some of it is lost as heat and some of it is used up by the organisms for their life processes.
