Satyendranath Tagore was the 1st Indian to join the ICS (Indian civil Services) in 1863 (He was just 21 years old when he cracked exam). He hailed from the famous Tagore family of Calcutta (one of the most intelligent family in India ). He was the elder brother of Rabindranath Tagore.( ICS after 1947 known as IAS). Charter Act of 1853 abolished the patronage system and introduced the system of open Competition as the basis of selection of Civil Services.The ICS Act of 1861 established the Indian Civil Service and see the beauty of Indian minds Satyendranath Tagore crack this exam in june 1863.First women IAS officer in Independent India: Isha Basant Joshi.
