The Directive Principles of State Policy are contained in Part IV, Articles 36-51 of the Indian Constitution. The idea of directives being included in the constitution was borrowed from the constitution of Ireland. They are non-enforceable and merely act as guidelines for the government while making policies. The directive regarding education of children was added by the 86th Amendment Act, 2002 and the directive, regarding protection of forests and wildlife was added by the 42nd Amendment Act, 1976.
