Consider the following statements:1. The Constitution of India provide...
  • Article 5 to Article 11 of the Indian Constitution deal with citizenship. The Constitution of India did not provide for commonwealth citizenship. Under the Citizenship Act, of 1955, every person born in a commonwealth country, by virtue of that citizenship enjoyed the status of Commonwealth Citizenship in India. The Act empowered the government of India to make provisions of reciprocity for the enforcement of all or any rights of Citizens of India on citizens of commonwealth countries. Hence statement 1 is not correct.
  • However, this provision was repealed by the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, of 2003. Hence statement 2 is correct.
