A confused bank teller transposed the rupees and paise when he cashed ...
Problem: A bank teller made a mistake while cashing a cheque for Mansi by interchanging the rupees and paise. After buying a toffee for 50 paise, Mansi found that she had three times the amount of the cheque left. What was the amount of the cheque?

Solution:
Let the actual amount of the cheque be x rupees and y paise.
According to the question,
Mansi received y rupees instead of y paise and x paise instead of x rupees.
Hence, the amount Mansi received = y rupees + x paise.
After buying a toffee for 50 paise, Mansi is left with 3 times the amount on the cheque.
Therefore, (y rupees + x paise) - 50 paise = 3(x rupees + y paise)
Simplifying the equation, we get:
y - 1/2x = 6y - 3/2x
Taking x and y on one side and simplifying, we get:
x = 18y
Now, we need to find the possible values of x and y.
Since Mansi received y rupees instead of y paise, y must be less than 100.
Also, x = 18y, so x must be a multiple of 18.
Therefore, the possible values of x are 18, 36, 54, 72, 90, and so on.
From the given options, option D 'Over Rs. 18 but less than Rs. 19' satisfies the condition.
Hence, the amount on the cheque was over Rs. 18 but less than Rs. 19.
