  • Image Distance (v): Image distance is positive when the image is formed on the same side as the incident light and negative when it is on the opposite side. It is measured from the image to the optical center of the lens.
  • Height (h): Height is positive when the object or image is above the principal axis and negative when it is below the principal axis.
