A thermal station has 85% boiler efficiency, 90% turbine efficiency an...
Concept:
The overall thermal efficiency of the power plant is equal to the multiplication of the efficiencies of the boiler, turbine, and generator.
ηthermal = ηboiler × ηturbine × ηgenerator
Where
ηthermal = Thermal efficiency of the power station
ηturbine = Turbine efficiency
ηgenerator = Generator efficiency
ηboiler = Boiler efficiency
Calculation:
Let assume generator efficiency is unity or 100%
Boiler efficiency = 85% = 0.85
Turbine efficiency = 90% = 0.9
ηthermal = 0.9 × 0.85 × 1
ηthermal = 76.5 %
Note:
The thermal efficiency of a power station is independent of load factor & it only depends upon boiler, turbine & generator efficiency.
The overall efficiency of the power station depends upon the boiler, turbine, generator efficiency & load factor.
ηpower plant = ηboiler× ηturbine × ηgenerator x L.F.
