A steam power station spends Rs. 30 lakhs per annum for coal used in t...
    Given data:
    - Cost of coal = Rs. 30 lakhs per annum
    - Calorific value of coal = 5000 kcal/kg
    - Cost of coal per ton = Rs. 300
    - Thermal efficiency of the station = 33%
    - Electrical efficiency of the station = 90%

    To find:
    - Average load on the station (in kW)

    Formula used:
    - Heat rate = 3412 / (thermal efficiency x electrical efficiency)
    - Heat rate = (Amount of heat required to produce 1 kWh of electrical energy) / (Efficiency of the power station)

    Calculation:
    - 1 ton of coal = 1000 kg
    - Cost of coal per kg = Rs. 300 / 1000 = Rs. 0.3
    - Cost of coal per annum = Rs. 30 lakhs = Rs. 3,000,000
    - Total coal consumed per annum = Cost of coal per annum / Cost of coal per kg
    = 3,000,000 / 0.3 = 10,000,000 kg
    - Heat energy produced by 1 kg of coal = 5000 kcal/kg x 4184 J/kcal
    = 20,920,000 J/kg
    - Total heat energy produced by coal per annum = Heat energy produced by 1 kg of coal x Total coal consumed per annum
    = 20,920,000 J/kg x 10,000,000 kg = 2.092 x 10^14 J
    - Electrical energy produced per annum = Thermal efficiency x Total heat energy produced by coal per annum
    = 0.33 x 2.092 x 10^14 J = 6.889 x 10^13 J
    - Average load on the station = Electrical energy produced per annum / (365 x 24 x 3600)
    = 6.889 x 10^13 J / (31,536,000 s)
    = 2180.23 kW (approx)

Therefore, the average load on the station is between 1960 kW and 1980 kW.
