Krebs cycle: This is the second step of respiration where pyruvate is broken down into carbon dioxide and water. This process takes place in the mitochondria and requires oxygen.

Electron transport chain: This is the final step of respiration where energy is released in the form of ATP. This process takes place in the mitochondria and requires oxygen.

Comparison with Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis and respiration are opposite phenomena.
