Heating of a current-carrying conductor is due to the loss of kinetic energy of moving electrons.

The loss of kinetic energy of moving electrons is due to the following reasons:

1. Resistance of the Conductor:

The resistance of the conductor is the measure of how difficult it is for the current to flow through the conductor. When an electric current flows through a conductor, the electrons collide with the atoms of the conductor, and this collision results in the loss of kinetic energy of moving electrons. The resistance of the conductor is directly proportional to the amount of energy lost by the electrons.

2. Joule Heating:

The loss of kinetic energy of moving electrons results in the generation of heat. This phenomenon is known as Joule heating. The heat generated is proportional to the square of the current flowing through the conductor, the resistance of the conductor, and the time for which the current is flowing.
