¥¥Xylem consists of the vessels and tracheids. They help in providing water and minerals from soil to the leaves. Tracheids and vessels of roots, stems and leaves are interconnected with each other and form a continuous system of water conducting channels. From soil, the root absorbs water by taking ions from the soil and this creates a difference between the ionic concentration of roots and soil.

•Thus, there is a steady movement of water from xylem to the plant. An osmotic pressure is formed due to which, the transportation of water and minerals from one cell to another cell takes place. Thus, xylem is used for transporting water.
