Plant hormones :-
These chemical substances are naturally produced in plants. They are capable of regulating their important processes . Different plant hormones help to coordinate growth , development and responses to the environmenent .
Major classes of plant hormones and their effects :-
1) Auxin :- are usually synthesised in the tip of shoots . It helps them to grow longer when plants are placed facing a light source , they Shi bending towards it .
2) Gibberellins :- the hormones that help in the growth of the stem and flower .
3( Cytokinis :- are the hormones , which promote cell division . Highest concentration of cytokinis occurs in fruit and seeds , i. e , areas of rapid cell division.
4( Abscisic acid :- is a group inhabitor .
- It is responsible for the wilting of leaves .
What is a plant hormone ? Name four plant hormone . State one function...
Plant Hormone --- Any of various hormones produced by plants that control or regulate germination, growth, metabolism, or other physiological activities.
Plant hormones are divided into five categories:
1. Auxins --- The primary function of the auxin hormones is to elongate plant cells in the stem.
2. Cytokinins --- The cytokinin hormones promote cell division and tissue growth, and depend upon the presence of auxins to determine the extent of their activity.
3. Gibberellins --- Gibberellins stimulate growth, especially elongation of the stem, and can also end the dormancy period of seeds and buds by encouraging germination.
4. Inhibitors --- True to their name, inhibitors restrain growth and maintain the period of dormancy in seeds and buds.
5. Ethylene --- Ethylene is best known for controlling the ripening of fruits.
