We are given that 30% of women above the age of 50 play basketball, which means 0.3 times the number of women above 50 years of age play basketball. So,

- Number of women above 50 years of age who play basketball = 0.3(40 - x)

The total number of women who play basketball is 20. Therefore,

- Number of women who play basketball = Number of women above 30 years of age who play basketball + Number of women less than or equal to 50 years of age who play basketball + Number of women above 50 years of age who play basketball
- 20 = 0.4x + 0.8(100 - x) + 0.3(40 - x)
