A student has to secure 35% marks to pass. He got 80 marks and failed ...
Given information:
- The student needs to secure 35% marks to pass.
- He got 80 marks and failed by 60 marks.

To find:
- The maximum marks.

Solution:
Let's assume the maximum marks as 'x'.

As per the given information, the student got 80 marks and failed by 60 marks. This means the passing marks (35%) are 60 marks more than what he got.
- Passing marks = 80 + 60 = 140 (35% of x)
- Therefore, 35% of x = 140
- Solving for x, we get x = 400

Therefore, the maximum marks are 400.

Hence, the correct option is (a) 400.
