Explanation:
Let the total number of students in the class be 'n'.
Given, student X has 8th position from the top and 84th position from the bottom.
Therefore, the number of students above student X = 8 - 1 = 7
And the number of students below student X = n - 84
So, total number of students above + below student X = 7 + n - 84 = n - 77
Hence, the total number of students in the class = (number of students above + below student X) + student X
= (n - 77) + 1 (since student X is also included in the total count)
= n - 76
Therefore, n - 76 = number of students in the class
By substituting the options, we can find that the only option that satisfies the above equation is option 'C' which is 91.
Therefore, the total number of students in the class is 91.
