The width of the depletion region in the E-B junction of a pnp-BJT will decrease when the E-B junction is forward biased and no voltage is applied across the C-B junction. This is because the forward biasing of the E-B junction causes the majority carriers (electrons in the n-type emitter and holes in the p-type base) to move towards the junction and neutralize some of the fixed charges in the depletion region, reducing its width.
