In a Dobereiner's traid, the atomic mass of the middle element is roughly the average of the atomic mass of the other  2 elements. Thus,  
Atomic mass of Q = (at. mass of P+ at. mass of R) /2
⇒ 23 = 7+ m(R) /2 
⇒ 23*2 = 7+ m(R) 
⇒  46 -7 = m(R) 
⇒ atomic mass of R = 39

Hey supraja....see we know that according to the Dobereiner's triads that if we arrange the elements according to there incrising atomic masses...then the sum of mean of first and third element mass will be same as the mass of the middle element of triads........SO..... P is the 1st element and q is the second and R is the third one.

So...(P+R)/2 = Q....(7+R)/2 = 23......7+R = 23×2.........R = 46 - 7 ........R = 39.
So the mass of the element R will be 30u..


I think those guys u havent readen traids will get confuse...let me first clear that... dobereiners was the first scientist who show the relation between different elements for study their property easily.......he show if we put theree element in triads.....in increasing atomic masses....then the property of all those three element will be same.......and the sum of mean of masses of 1st and 3rd element will be same as the mass of 2nd element....in simple avrage of masses of 1st and 3rd element will be equal to the mass of 2nd element.
