The long hydrocarbon part of soap is called tail. And it's ionic part is called head. When soap is dissolved in water the molecules are combine to form micelles.
The tail is toward the dirt surface which dissolve the dust and grease feom them and deattach them from fabroc lead to cleaning of clothes

Soap has 2 parts- ionic part (head) and and hydrocarbon part (tail).ionic part is hrdrophillic and hydrocarbon part is hydrophobic.when soap is dipped in water it forms spherical aggregation around oil or grease called micelle.since water is attracted by hrdrophillic part and oil is attracted by hydrophobic part therefore clothes taken out are clean and water left behind is dirty
