What is the difference between CLAT Cut Off & CLAT Merit List?
The CLAT Cut Off and CLAT Merit List are related but distinct concepts. Here are the details:
CLAT Cut Off refers to the minimum score or percentile required to be eligible for admission to the National Law Universities (NLUs) through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). It is used as a benchmark to determine who can participate in the counselling process. Example 1: Let's say the CLAT Cut Off for a particular NLU is 100 out of 150 marks. This means that to be eligible for admission to that NLU, a candidate must score a minimum of 100 marks in the CLAT exam.
CLAT Merit List, on the other hand, is a list of candidates who have cleared the CLAT Cut Off and are eligible for admission to the NLUs based on their rank or score in the exam. The merit list is usually prepared based on the scores of all the candidates who appeared for the exam and is used to determine the order of admission to the NLUs. Example 2: Now, let's consider the CLAT Merit List for the same NLU(discussed in Example 1). The merit list might show that there are 200 candidates who have scored more than 100 marks and are eligible for admission. Out of these 200 candidates, the candidate with the highest score will be ranked first, followed by the candidate with the second-highest score, and so on.
In short, the CLAT Cut Off is the minimum score required to be considered for admission, while the CLAT Merit List is a ranking of eligible candidates based on their scores.

What is the difference between CLAT Cut Off and CLAT Opening and Closing ranks?
CLAT Cut Off refers to the minimum score or percentile required to be eligible for admission to the National Law Universities (NLUs) through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). It is used as a benchmark to determine who can participate in the counselling process.
CLAT Opening Rank, on the other hand, refers to the lowest rank in the CLAT Merit List that is eligible for admission to a particular NLU. It is the first rank at which admissions are offered to a particular NLU.
CLAT Closing Rank, on the other hand, is the highest rank at which admissions are offered to a particular NLU. In other words, it is the last rank for which admissions are offered to a particular NLU.
So, the CLAT Cut Off acts as the eligibility criteria for admission, the CLAT Opening Rank is the first rank at which admissions are offered, and the CLAT Closing Rank is the last rank for which admissions are offered. In short, the CLAT Cut Off determines who is eligible to participate in the counselling process, while the CLAT Opening Rank and CLAT Closing Rank determine the range of ranks within which admissions are offered to a particular NLU.
