What is GATE Exam?

  • GATE is an online test with multiple choice and numerical type questions conducted for 23 disciplines (papers) of engineering. Mostly questions are fundamental, concept based and thought-provoking.
  • Please don’t have a misconception that GATE is only meant for ME/MTech which leads to the teaching career only. 
  • There are many other advantages of taking GATE such as employment in PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings), direct recruitment to Group A level posts in Central Government and some other Government of India Organizations. 
  • GATE qualifiers can use their GATE Scorecard for admission to Master’s Program and direct Doctoral Programs in Engg./Tech./Architecture. 
  • The GATE Scorecard is also used to avail financial assistance (scholarship) for the post-graduate program.

1. What is GATE 2019?
Ans. GATE 2019, or Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2019, is an entrance examination conducted at the national level in India. It is primarily conducted to evaluate the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science for admission to postgraduate programs and for recruitment to various government and public sector organizations.
2. What are the eligibility criteria for appearing in GATE 2019?
Ans. The eligibility criteria for GATE 2019 are as follows: - Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy (4 years after 10+2) and those who are pursuing the final year of such programs. - Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy (Post-B.Sc./Post-Diploma) and those who are in the final year of such programs. - Master's degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programs. - Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master's degree program (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology. - Candidates in the fourth or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master's degree program or Dual Degree program in Engineering/Technology. - Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. - Candidates who have completed Section A of AMIE or equivalent of such professional courses recognized by UPSC/AICTE.
3. How can I apply for GATE 2019?
Ans. The application process for GATE 2019 is as follows: - Visit the official website of GATE and register as a new user. - Fill in the application form with personal details, academic qualifications, and other required information. - Upload scanned copies of your photograph, signature, and other documents as per the specified format and size. - Pay the application fee through online mode using debit/credit card or net banking. - Submit the application form and take a printout of the confirmation page for future reference.
4. What is the exam pattern for GATE 2019?
Ans. GATE 2019 consists of a single paper with a duration of 3 hours. The exam pattern includes the following: - The paper will contain a total of 65 questions, comprising both multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and numerical answer type questions (NATs). - The MCQs will have four options, out of which only one option is correct. - The NATs will not have any options. Candidates have to enter the numerical value using the virtual keypad. - The questions will be based on the subjects specified for each paper. - The paper will have a total of 100 marks. - There will be negative marking for MCQs, while no negative marking for NATs.
5. What is the validity of GATE 2019 score?
Ans. The GATE 2019 score is valid for a period of three years from the date of announcement of results. The score can be used for admissions to postgraduate programs in engineering and science, as well as for recruitment to various government and public sector organizations during this period.
