Contrivances to prevent Allogamy

Dicliny:
- Dicliny is a condition where a plant has separate male and female flowers on separate plants.
- This prevents self-fertilization and promotes cross-fertilization, which is a form of allogamy.

Dichogamy:
- Dichogamy is the condition where the male and female reproductive organs of a plant mature at different times.
- This ensures that the plant cannot self-fertilize and promotes cross-fertilization.

Heterostyly:
- Heterostyly is a condition where a plant has two or three different types of flowers with different lengths of stamens and pistils.
- This ensures that the plant cannot self-fertilize and promotes cross-fertilization.

Self-sterility:
- Self-sterility is the condition where the pollen from a plant cannot fertilize its own ovules.
- This ensures that the plant cannot self-fertilize and promotes cross-fertilization.

Herkogamy:
- Herkogamy is the condition where the male and female reproductive organs of a plant are physically separated, preventing self-fertilization.
- This condition also promotes cross-fertilization.

The above contrivances prevent allogamy, which is the fertilization of a plant by pollen from another plant of the same species. This promotes genetic diversity and enhances the chances of survival of the species.

Allogamy is cross pollination.
I) dicliny- production of unisexual flower.
ii) dicogamy - in bisexual flower bot anther and ovary mature at different times.
iii) presence of 2 or more different types of flower with respect to length of style.
iv) self sterility- genetic mechanism which prevent self pollination.
v)hercogamy- anther and stigma positioned at different heights.
Hence these are all outbreeding device which prevent autogamy and allow allogamy.
