in medium having non-radioactive thymidine. After
three duplication, the DNA molecules having labelled
thymidine shall be
  • a)
    One molecule
  • b)
    Two molecules
  • c)
    Four molecules
  • d)
    Eight molecules
Correct answer is option 'B'. Can you explain this answer?
Most Upvoted Answer
DNA having labelled thymidine is allowed to replicatein medium having ...
Answer is 16 strands.
After first replication two double stranded DNA will be formed, after second replication four double stranded DNA will be formed. After third replication 8 double stranded DNA will be formed. Thymine is incorporated in each strand as it is one of the four nitrogenous bases. The medium is radioactive therefore each strand will contain labelled thymine and total 16 strands of DNA is formed so 16 strand will contain labelled thymine....

DNA having labelled thymidine is allowed to replicatein medium having ...
Explanation:

Replication Process:
- Initially, a DNA molecule with labelled thymidine is allowed to replicate in a medium with non-radioactive thymidine.
- During the replication process, each strand of DNA will serve as a template for the synthesis of a new complementary strand.

Duplication Rounds:
- After the first round of replication, there will be two DNA molecules, one original and one newly synthesized.
- After the second round of replication, each of the two DNA molecules will produce a copy, resulting in a total of four DNA molecules.
- After the third round of replication, each of the four DNA molecules will again replicate, leading to a total of eight DNA molecules.
Therefore, after three rounds of duplication, the DNA molecules with labelled thymidine will result in a total of two molecules as the initial molecule will produce one copy during each round of replication.
