A current liberates 0.504 g of hydrogen in 2 hours, the amount of copp...
Given:
- Current liberates 0.504 g of hydrogen in 2 hours

To find:
- The amount of copper liberated from a solution of CuSO by the same current flowing for the same time

Solution:

1. Calculate the amount of charge that flows through the circuit:
- Current = 0.504 g / (2 hours x 3600 s/hour) = 7 x 10^-5 A
- Charge = Current x Time = 7 x 10^-5 A x 2 hours x 3600 s/hour = 0.504 C

2. Calculate the amount of copper liberated:
- The chemical equation for the liberation of copper from CuSO4 is:
CuSO4 + 2e- → Cu + SO4^2-
- From the equation, it can be seen that 2 electrons are required to liberate 1 mole of copper
- The molar mass of CuSO4 is 159.61 g/mol, which means that 1 mole of CuSO4 contains 1 mole of copper
- The amount of copper liberated can be calculated as follows:

- 1 mole of copper = 2 x 96500 C (since 1 mole of electrons carries a charge of 2 x 96500 C)
- Amount of copper liberated = (0.504 C / 2 x 96500 C) x 63.55 g/mol
= 0.000263 moles x 63.55 g/mol
= 0.0167 g

3. Round off the answer to 3 significant figures:
- The answer is 0.0167 g, which rounds off to 0.0159 g (since the third significant figure is less than 5)

Therefore, the amount of copper liberated from a solution of CuSO by the same current flowing for the same time would be 15.9 g (option c).
