The negative terminal of battery start emitting electrons toward N side of the Diode. As a result of that the concentration of electrons start increasing in N region and then due to concentration difference occurs in whole diode . So the movement of electron starts i.e. from N region towards p region. While moving From N to P it is opposed by junction potential but the external voltage is taken greater than the built in voltage so that the force in an electron is much more than junction potential.(i.e. F=qE; E=V/L).
Due to that the electron moves in Depletion Region .Make the charge neutral and basically most of the charged carriers in DR get neutralised and leaves the Depletion Region . As a result the width of Depletion region get thin in forward bias.
