LIGHT REACTION
The light reaction is the stage of photosynthesis which occurs only in the presence of sunlight and it is dependent on the light to perform its work. it takes place in the grana thylakoid membrane of the chloroplast. the grana thylakoid is responsible for trapping the solar energy for photosynthesis.

DARK REACTION
Dark reaction is the stage of photosynthesis which occurs in the presence or absence of the light. It is not dependent on light to perform its reaction. It takes place in the Stroma of the chloroplast. The stroma is responsible for enzymatic reaction to synthesize of glucose to form starch.

LIGHT REACTION
The light reaction only takes place in the presence of light.
The light reaction is considered as the light dependent reaction.
The light reaction is also called as photo-chemical phase.
The light reaction takes place in the grana thylakoids of the chloroplast.
In light reaction, H+ ions are utilized by NADP ( Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide Phosphate) to form NADPH.
The end products of light reaction are ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) and NADPH, which are also called as assimilatiory powers.
In light reaction, the water molecule splits and oxygen is released.

DARK REACTION

Light-Dependent Reactions:

The light-dependent reactions occur in the thylakoid membranes of the chloroplasts and require light energy to take place. Here is how these reactions occur:

1. Light Absorption: Chlorophyll, the pigment responsible for capturing light energy, absorbs photons from sunlight. The energy from the photons is transferred to electrons, exciting them to a higher energy state.

2. Electron Transport Chain: The excited electrons are passed through a series of protein complexes known as the electron transport chain (ETC). As they move through the ETC, their energy is used to pump protons (H+) across the thylakoid membrane, creating a proton gradient.

3. ATP Synthesis: The proton gradient generated by the ETC is used to produce ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy currency of cells. ATP synthase is an enzyme that allows protons to flow back across the thylakoid membrane, driving the synthesis of ATP.

4. Water Splitting: Water molecules are split into oxygen, protons (H+), and electrons. The electrons replace those lost from chlorophyll in the photosystem, and the protons contribute to the proton gradient.

5. NADPH Formation: The electrons that pass through the ETC are ultimately transferred to NADP+, a coenzyme that becomes reduced to NADPH. NADPH is a high-energy molecule used in the dark reactions.

Dark Reactions (Calvin Cycle):

The dark reactions, also known as the Calvin Cycle, occur in the stroma of the chloroplasts and do not require light directly. They utilize the products of the light-dependent reactions (ATP and NADPH) to convert carbon dioxide into glucose. Here is how these reactions occur:

1. Carbon Fixation: In this initial step, carbon dioxide molecules are captured and combined with a five-carbon compound called ribulose bisphosphate (RuBP) to form an unstable six-carbon molecule. This process is catalyzed by the enzyme RuBisCO.

2. Reduction: The unstable six-carbon molecule is quickly broken down into two molecules of a three-carbon compound called 3-phosphoglycerate (PGA). ATP and NADPH from the light-dependent reactions provide the energy and electrons necessary to convert PGA into glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate (G3P).

3. Regeneration: Some of the G3P molecules produced are used to regenerate RuBP, the initial molecule needed for carbon fixation. This step requires ATP.

4. Glucose Formation: Some of the G3P molecules are used to synthesize glucose and other organic compounds that the plant needs for growth and energy storage.
