    • 128 sectors per track

    • 512 bytes per sector



    To find:
    Number of bits required to address the sector.

    Solution:

    • Calculation of total number of sectors:

    • Total number of sectors = Number of surfaces x Number of tracks per surface x Number of sectors per track
      = 8 x 128 x 128
      = 1048576 sectors

    • Calculation of number of bits required to address the sector:

    • The number of bits required to address the sector can be calculated as the log base 2 of the total number of sectors.
      Number of bits required to address the sector = log2(1048576)
      = log2(2^20)
      = 20 bits
