    42
  • d)
    43
Correct answer is option 'D'. Can you explain this answer?
Verified Answer
Mr. X, a mathematician, defines a number as 'connected with 6 if it is...
Numbers from 1 to 60, which are divisible by 6 are : 6,12,18, 24, 30, 36,42, 48, 54, 60.
There are 10 such numbers.
Numbers from 1 to 60, the sum of whose digits is 6 are : 6, 15, 24, 33, 42, 51, 60.
There are 7 such numbers of which 4 are common to the above ones. So, there are 3such uncommon numbers.
Numbers from 1 to 60, which have 6 as one of the digits are 6, 16, 26, 36, 46, 56, 60.
Clearly, there are 4 such uncommon numbers.
So, numbers 'not connected with 6' = 60 - (10 + 3 + 4) = 43.

Calculation of numbers not connected with 6
- To find the numbers not connected with 6, we need to first identify the numbers that are connected with 6 as per the given definition.
- Numbers connected with 6 include those that are divisible by 6, have a digit sum of 6, or have the digit 6 in them.

Numbers connected with 6
- Divisible by 6: The numbers between 1 and 60 that are divisible by 6 are 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54, and 60.
- Digit sum of 6: Numbers with a digit sum of 6 are 15, 24, 33, 42, 51, and 60.
- Numbers with digit 6: Numbers with the digit 6 are 6, 16, 26, 36, 46, 56, and 60.

Calculating numbers not connected with 6
- Total numbers from 1 to 60 are 60.
- Numbers connected with 6 are 16 (10 divisible by 6, 6 with digit sum 6, and 1 with digit 6).
- Therefore, numbers not connected with 6 are 60 - 16 = 44.
Therefore, the correct option is 43 as we need to exclude 1 occurrence of number 6 which is counted as both connected and not connected with 6.
