Jatin,RBCs carry oxygen from lungs to all parts of the body.
But blood does not reach every minute cell of the body.It is plasma(yellow liquid) that keeps all the cells under suspension I.e,it makes sure that all the cells are moistened by blood and they recieved oxygen and collect CO2 from them. Then it hands over CO2 to RBCs which carries it back to lungs.

Blood Constituents and Transport of Respiratory Gases

Blood is a vital fluid that plays a crucial role in transporting various substances throughout the body. It consists of several components, including red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), and plasma. Each of these components has specific functions in the transportation of respiratory gases, primarily oxygen (O2) and carbon dioxide (CO2).

1. Red Blood Cells (RBCs):
- RBCs are the most abundant cells in the blood and contain a pigment called hemoglobin, which binds to oxygen molecules.
- The main function of RBCs is to transport oxygen from the lungs to the body tissues and organs. This is achieved through the reversible binding of oxygen to hemoglobin, forming oxyhemoglobin.
- In the tissues, where oxygen concentration is low, oxyhemoglobin releases oxygen, which diffuses into the cells for cellular respiration.
- RBCs do not directly transport carbon dioxide. Instead, they transport a small portion of carbon dioxide in the form of carbaminohemoglobin, which is the combination of carbon dioxide and hemoglobin.

2. White Blood Cells (WBCs):
- WBCs are involved in the immune response and play a crucial role in defending the body against infections.
- They are not directly involved in the transport of respiratory gases.

3. Plasma:
- Plasma is the liquid component of blood and constitutes about 55% of total blood volume.
- It contains various proteins, hormones, nutrients, gases, and waste products.
- Plasma does not directly transport oxygen but helps in carrying carbon dioxide in the form of bicarbonate ions (HCO3-) by maintaining the acid-base balance.

Conclusion:
The most accurate statement regarding blood constituents and the transport of respiratory gases is that both RBCs and plasma are involved in the transport of both oxygen and carbon dioxide. RBCs are primarily responsible for carrying oxygen through the binding of oxygen to hemoglobin, while a small portion of carbon dioxide is transported in the form of carbaminohemoglobin. Plasma, on the other hand, helps in carrying carbon dioxide as bicarbonate ions. WBCs are not directly involved in the transport of respiratory gases but play a vital role in the immune response.
