3. P700 transfers the excited electrons to an electron acceptor called ferredoxin (Fd).

4. The electrons are then passed from ferredoxin to the enzyme NADP+ reductase, which uses these electrons to reduce NADP+ to NADPH.

5. At the same time, the electrons lost from PSI are replenished by the electron transport chain of photosystem II (PSII), which oxidizes water molecules to release electrons, protons (H+), and oxygen.
