Given Equation:
4x^2 + 2x + 4 = 0

Let the roots of the equation be a and 1/a (reciprocal of each other)

Sum of the roots:
a + 1/a = -b/a = -2

Product of the roots:
a * (1/a) = 1

Using the above two equations:
a^2 + 1 = 0
a^2 = -1
a = ±√(-1)
a = ±i

Since roots are imaginary, they must come in pairs:
a = i, 1/a = -i
or
a = -i, 1/a = i

Therefore, the roots of the given equation are i and -i.

Sum of the roots:
i + (-i) = 0

Product of the roots:
i * (-i) = -i^2 = -(-1) = 1

Therefore, the value of 'a' is 8.
