A five digit number is formed from the numbers 1,3,5,7,8 and 9 without...
Solution:

Total number of digits = 6
Number of digits divisible by 5 = 2 (5 and 0)

As the number has to be divisible by 5, so the unit place is occupied by 5. We have to select any one digit from the remaining 5 digits for the thousand's place.

Therefore, number of ways of selecting the digit for thousand's place = 5

Now, the remaining 4 digits can be arranged in 4! ways.

Therefore, total number of 5 digit numbers that can be formed = 5 × 4! = 120

Out of these 120 numbers, only 24 numbers are divisible by 5 (i.e. the number ends with 5). Therefore, the probability that the number is divisible by 5 is:

P(divisible by 5) = 24/120

P(divisible by 5) = 1/5

Hence, the correct option is (c) 1/6.
