A bar magnet used in vibration magnetometer is heated so as to reduce ...
Explanation:
When a bar magnet is heated, its magnetic moment decreases because of thermal agitation which randomizes the orientation of the magnetic domains present in the magnet. Let the initial time period of the magnet be T1 and its magnetic moment be M1. After heating, the magnetic moment reduces by 36% i.e. M1' = 0.64M1.

Effect of heating on time period:
The time period of a vibration magnetometer is given by T = 2π√(I/M) where I is the moment of inertia of the magnet and M is its magnetic moment. As the dimensions of the magnet remain constant, the moment of inertia remains unchanged. Therefore, we can write:

T' = 2π√(I/M1') = 2π√(I/0.64M1)

T'/T1 = √(M1/M1') = √(1/0.64) = 1.25

Therefore, the time period of the magnet after heating increases by 25%. Hence, the correct option is (C).
