In the following question, a statement of Assertion(A) is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason(R).
Read the statements carefully, and mark the correct answer.
Assertion(A): Persons suffering from haemophilia fail to produce blood clotting factor VIII.
Reason(R): Prothrombin producing platelets in such persons are found in very low concentration.
  • a)
Both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.
  • b)
Both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.
  • c)
Assertion is true but reason is false.
  • d)
Both assertion and reason are false.
Correct answer is option 'C'. Can you explain this answer?

In the following question, a statement of Assertion(A) is given follow...
Haemophilia is a blood disorder where the blood does not clot normally. Haemophilia A is the most common form, caused by a deficiency of blood clotting factor VIII. Haemophilia B is due to a deficiency of blood clotting factor IX. Haemophilia is an hereditary disorder. In almost all cases, it is males that suffer the condition, although it is passed on by both females and males carrying the gene. Queen Victoria was a carrier of haemophilia A. It is also known as classical haemiophilia and factor VIII deficiency haemophilia, B is also known as Factor IX haemophilia, and Christmas disease after the first patient diagnosed with it. Prophrombin producing platelets in such persons are not found in very low concentraion.

In the following question, a statement of Assertion(A) is given follow...
Assertion(A): Persons suffering from haemophilia fail to produce blood clotting factor VIII.
Reason(R): Prothrombin producing platelets in such persons are found in very low concentration.

Explanation:
- Haemophilia: Haemophilia is a genetic disorder characterized by the inability of the blood to clot properly. It is caused by the deficiency or absence of certain clotting factors in the blood.
- Assertion: The assertion states that persons suffering from haemophilia fail to produce blood clotting factor VIII.
- Reason: The reason states that prothrombin producing platelets in such persons are found in very low concentration.

Analysis:
- Haemophilia is classified into two types: haemophilia A and haemophilia B.
- Haemophilia A is caused by a deficiency or absence of clotting factor VIII, while haemophilia B is caused by a deficiency or absence of clotting factor IX.
- The clotting factors, including factor VIII, are proteins produced by the liver and are necessary for the blood to clot properly.
- Platelets are not responsible for producing clotting factors. Instead, they play a role in the clotting process by sticking together at the site of injury and forming a plug to stop bleeding.
- Platelets contain certain proteins that help in the clotting process, but they do not produce clotting factors like factor VIII.
- Therefore, the reason given in the statement is incorrect. Platelets are not responsible for producing factor VIII, and their concentration does not directly affect the production of factor VIII.

Conclusion:
- The assertion is true as haemophilia is indeed characterized by the deficiency or absence of clotting factor VIII.
- However, the reason given is false as platelets do not produce clotting factor VIII. Therefore, the correct answer is option 'C' - Assertion is true, but the reason is false.

Read the passage given below and answer the following questions:The rate of a reaction, which may also be called its velocity or speed, can be defined with relation to the concentration of any of the reacting substances, or to that of any product of the reaction. If the species chosen is a reactant which has a concentration c at time t the rate is - dc/dt, while the rate with reference to a product having a concentration x at time t is dx/dt. Any concentration units may be used for expressing the rate; thus, if moles per liter are employed for concentration and seconds for the time, the units for the rate are moles litre–1sec–1. For gas reactions pressure units are sometimes used in place of concentrations, so that legitimate units for the rate would be (mm. Hg) sec–1 and atm. sec–1 The order of a reaction concerns the dependence of the rate upon the concentrations of reacting substances; thus, if the rate is found experimentally to be proportional to the ath power of the concentration of one of the reactants A, to the both power of the concentration of a second reactant B, and so forth, via., rate = k CAα CAβ the over-all order of the reaction is simply n = α + β + ----- (2) Such a reaction is said to be of the αth order with respect to the substance A, the βth order with respect to B.In the following questions, a statement of Assertion followed by a statement of Reason is given. Choose the correct answer out of the following choices on the basis of the above passage.Assertion: Rate of reaction is a measure of change in concentration of reactant with respect to time.Reason: Rate of reaction is a measure of change in concentration of product with respect to time.
