When SO2 is passed through acidified K2Cr2O7 solution, the following reaction takes place:
2K2Cr2O7 + 3SO2 + 4H2SO4 → 2Cr2(SO4)3 + 3SO3 + K2SO4 + 4H2O
Formation of green Cr2(SO4)3:
- The green color of the solution indicates the formation of chromium sulfate (Cr2(SO4)3).
- The reduction of Cr(VI) in K2Cr2O7 to Cr(III) in Cr2(SO4)3 results in the change in color from orange to green.
Therefore, option 'A' is correct as green Cr2(SO4)3 is formed when SO2 is passed through acidified K2Cr2O7 solution.
