Which statement about alleles is not true :-a)There may be several at ...
The alternative forms of a gene are alleles. Since, genes are present on chromosomes on fix loci, an allele is present at locus on a chromosome.
Trait that fully manifests itself, in heterozygous condition, is referred to as dominant trait and the allele controlling it is known as dominant allele. The trait that does not express itself in heterozygous condition or whose effect is masked by presence of dominant trait is known as recessive trait and the responsible allele is termed as recessive allele. Dominant-recessive relationship of alleles is due to production of less functional protein/ non functional protein/no protein product at all by recessive allele.
Incomplete dominance is the condition when none of factors of a gene is dominant and the phenotype of heterozygous dominant individual is blend of dominant and recessive traits.
Multiple alleles refer to presence of more than two alternate forms of a gene which should be accommodated on two loci on a homologous pair. This is facilitated by presence of more than one allele on same locus provided one allele is present at a locus at a time in a chromosome.
Therefore, the correct answer is option D.

Which statement about alleles is not true :-a)There may be several at ...
Explanation:

Alleles and Loci
- Alleles are different forms of a gene that occupy the same position on a chromosome, known as a locus.
- At a particular locus, there may be several alleles present.

Dominance of Alleles
- Alleles can exhibit dominance where one allele masks the expression of another allele.
- This means that in a heterozygous individual, the dominant allele will be expressed phenotypically.

Incomplete Dominance
- Incomplete dominance is a genetic situation in which one allele does not completely dominate another allele, and the resulting phenotype is a combination of both alleles.
- This leads to a blending of traits rather than one allele being completely dominant over the other.

Occupying Different Loci
- Alleles are variations of genes that occupy the same loci on homologous chromosomes.
- They do not occupy different loci on the same chromosome; instead, they are variations of the same gene at the same location.
Therefore, the statement that alleles occupy different loci on the same chromosome (option D) is not true. Alleles are variations of genes that are found at the same locus on a chromosome, not at different loci.
