Explanation:

The Law of Dominance states that when two alleles of a contrasting trait are present, one allele will be dominant and the other will be recessive. The dominant allele will express itself in the phenotype, while the recessive allele will remain hidden.

This law was first proposed by Gregor Mendel, the father of genetics. He conducted experiments with pea plants and observed that when he crossed a yellow pea plant with a green pea plant, all the offspring were yellow. However, when he crossed two of these yellow offspring, he observed that some of the offspring were yellow and some were green. This led him to conclude that there were dominant and recessive alleles for the trait of pea color.

The Law of Dominance is important in understanding how traits are inherited and expressed in organisms. It helps us to predict the likelihood of certain traits appearing in offspring and to understand why some traits may skip generations.

In summary, the Law of Dominance states that when two alleles of a contrasting trait are present, one allele will be dominant and the other will be recessive. The dominant allele will express itself in the phenotype, while the recessive allele will remain hidden.
