The Calvin cycle is a series of enzymatic reactions that can be divided into three main stages: carbon fixation, reduction, and regeneration.

1. Carbon Fixation:
- The enzyme RuBisCO (Ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase) fixes carbon dioxide by combining it with RuBP (Ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate), a 5-carbon compound.
- This results in the formation of an unstable 6-carbon compound, which immediately splits into two molecules of 3-phosphoglycerate (3-PGA).

2. Reduction:
- ATP and NADPH, which are products of the light reactions occurring in the thylakoid membranes, provide the energy and reducing power for the reduction phase.
- Each molecule of 3-PGA is phosphorylated by ATP, converting it into 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate (1,3-BPGA).
- NADPH then donates high-energy electrons to 1,3-BPGA, converting it into glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate (G3P) and regenerating NADP+.

3. Regeneration:
- Some of the G3P molecules are used to synthesize glucose and other carbohydrates, while the remaining G3P molecules are used to regenerate RuBP.
- This regeneration is essential for the continuous functioning of the Calvin cycle, as RuBP is necessary for the carbon fixation step.

Conclusion:
The biosynthetic phase of photosynthesis, which occurs in the stroma of the chloroplast, requires the products of the light reactions like NADPH and ATP. These products provide the energy and reducing power necessary for the conversion of carbon dioxide into glucose during the Calvin cycle. Therefore, statement d) is incorrect.
