Problem: A 25 percent gain is made by selling the mixture of two types of sugar at Rs 450 per kg. If one type of sugar costing Rs 560 per kg was mixed with 185 kg of the other type of sugar which cost is Rs.280 per kg, how many kilograms of the former was mixed?

Solution:

Let's assume that x kg of sugar costing Rs 560 per kg is mixed with 185 kg of sugar costing Rs 280 per kg to make a mixture.

Total cost of sugar = cost of sugar 1 + cost of sugar 2
Total cost of sugar = (560x) + (280 x 185)
Total cost of sugar = 560x + 51800

Now, the mixture is sold at Rs 450 per kg with a 25% profit. So, the cost price of the mixture will be:

Cost price of mixture = (450 x 100)/125
Cost price of mixture = 360

We know that the cost price of the mixture is equal to the total cost of sugar divided by the total quantity of sugar. So,

360 = (560x + 51800)/(x + 185)

Solving the above equation, we get:

x = 74 kg

Therefore, 74 kg of sugar costing Rs 560 per kg was mixed with 185 kg of sugar costing Rs 280 per kg to make a mixture.

Hence, option (c) is the correct answer.
