Lewis bases are electron pair donors. Nucleophilic reagents are electron-rich species that can donate electrons to form a chemical bond. Ligands are ions or molecules that can bond to a central metal atom or ion to form a complex compound. Some species can act as all three - Lewis base, nucleophilic reagent, and ligand.

Water, H2O, can act as a Lewis base, nucleophilic reagent, and ligand in complex compounds.

As a Lewis base, water has a lone pair of electrons on the oxygen atom, which can donate to an empty orbital on a Lewis acid.

As a nucleophilic reagent, water can donate its lone pair of electrons to an electrophilic center, such as a carbocation or a proton, to form a new bond.

As a ligand, water can bond to a central metal atom or ion to form a coordination complex, such as in the case of metal aquo complexes like [Cu(H2O)6]2+ and [Fe(H2O)6]2+. Water molecules can also act as bridging ligands, connecting two or more metal centers in a complex.

Other species that can act as Lewis bases, nucleophilic reagents, and ligands include ammonia (NH3), cyanide (CN-), and carbon monoxide (CO).
