Four bulbs, each of rating (100 W, 220 V) andconnected in parallel across a voltage supply of220 V, are operated for five hours daily. If all the bulbsare replaced by LEDs of rating (8 W, 220 V), howmany units of electrical energy will be saved everymonth (30 days)?
Most Upvoted Answer
Four bulbs, each of rating (100 W, 220 V) andconnected in parallel acr...
Power=100 w
total hours in 30 days = 5*30=150 hrs
energy= power*time
power= 0.1 kw
0.1*150=15
power for four bulbs = 4*15= 60 kw
now
for led apply same method
  power = 8 w
total hours in 30 days = 150
power = 0.008 k/w
energy = power *time
=0.008*150
=1.2
so  power for four bulbs = 1.2*4=4.8
sow we have to find the energy save so p1-p2 = 60-4.8=55.2 ans .

Calculation of Energy Savings by Replacing Bulbs with LEDs

Calculation of Energy Consumed by Bulbs

  • Power consumed by each bulb = 100 W

  • Number of bulbs connected in parallel = 4

  • Voltage supply = 220 V

  • Time of operation = 5 hours daily

  • Energy consumed by each bulb in one hour = (100 W / 220 V) * 1 hour = 0.45 kWh

  • Energy consumed by each bulb in five hours = 0.45 kWh * 5 hours = 2.25 kWh

  • Total energy consumed by four bulbs in five hours = 2.25 kWh * 4 = 9 kWh

  • Total energy consumed in 30 days = 9 kWh * 30 days = 270 kWh

Calculation of Energy Consumed by LEDs

  • Power consumed by each LED = 8 W

  • Number of LEDs connected in parallel = 4

  • Voltage supply = 220 V

  • Time of operation = 5 hours daily

  • Energy consumed by each LED in one hour = (8 W / 220 V) * 1 hour = 0.036 kWh

  • Energy consumed by each LED in five hours = 0.036 kWh * 5 hours = 0.18 kWh

  • Total energy consumed by four LEDs in five hours = 0.18 kWh * 4 = 0.72 kWh

  • Total energy consumed in 30 days = 0.72 kWh * 30 days = 21.6 kWh

Calculation of Energy Savings

  • Energy saved per day = Energy consumed by bulbs - Energy consumed by LEDs = 9 kWh - 0.72 kWh = 8.28 kWh

  • Energy saved per month (30 days) = 8.28 kWh * 30 days = 248.4 kWh

Explanation

By replacing the bulbs with LEDs, the power consumption is reduced from 400 W to 32 W. This results in significant energy savings, as shown by the above calculations. LEDs are more energy-efficient than traditional bulbs, as they consume less power and have a longer lifespan. Therefore, replacing bulbs with LEDs is a cost-effective and environmentally-friendly option.
