V =√( u² + v² )/√2

Let the length of train be 's' or the distance covered be 's'.So by 3rd kinematical eqn we getv^2-u^2=2as...(1)Now for the midpoint let the velocity be 'x' so by the same equation we getx^2-u^2=2as/2=as...(2)By equating eqn 1 n 2 we get, x^2-u^2=v^2-u^2/2Now we want 'x' so after you solve you will get x=(v^2+u^2/2)^1/2
