20 ml of O, and 50 ml of H, is sparked till the reaction is completed ...
Given: 20 ml of O₂ and 50 ml of H₂

Reaction: 2H₂ + O₂ → 2H₂O

Assuming temperature and pressure constant,

The volume of gases before the reaction is 20 ml + 50 ml = 70 ml

The stoichiometry of the reaction shows that 2 moles of H₂ react with 1 mole of O₂ to form 2 moles of H₂O. Therefore, the limiting reactant is O₂.

According to the given reaction, 1 mole of O₂ reacts to form 2 moles of H₂O.

So, 20 ml of O₂ reacts to form 40 ml of H₂O.

The remaining H₂ reacts with the formed H₂O to form more H₂O.

1 mole of H₂ reacts to form 1 mole of H₂O. So, 2 moles of H₂ react to form 2 moles of H₂O.

Therefore, 50 ml of H₂ reacts to form 50 ml of H₂O.

The total volume of water formed is 40 ml + 50 ml = 90 ml.

Therefore, the reduction in volume of gases after the reaction is (70 ml - 90 ml) = -20 ml.

The negative sign indicates that the volume of gases has decreased by 20 ml.

Hence, the correct option is (3) 70 ml.
