A step up transformer connected to a 220 V AC line is to supply 22 kV ...
Solution:

Given,
Primary voltage, V1 = 220 V
Secondary voltage, V2 = 22 kV = 22000 V
Maximum current in secondary circuit, I2 = 10 mA

We know that transformer formula,
V1/V2 = N1/N2

where,
V1 = Primary voltage
V2 = Secondary voltage
N1 = Number of turns in primary coil
N2 = Number of turns in secondary coil

Substituting the given values,
220/22000 = N1/N2

N1/N2 = 1/100

Therefore,
N2/N1 = 100/1

Turn ratio, N2/N1 = 100/1

Hence, the turn ratio of the transformer is 100.

Explanation:

The given problem is related to the step-up transformer, which is used to increase the voltage level from the primary circuit to the secondary circuit. The transformer formula relates the primary and secondary voltages with the number of turns in the primary and secondary coils.

In this problem, the primary voltage is given as 220 V, and the secondary voltage required for the neon sign is 22 kV. Therefore, the transformer should step up the voltage level by a factor of 100.

The maximum current in the secondary circuit is given as 10 mA, and a fuse wire is connected in the primary circuit to protect the circuit from excessive current flow. When the current in the secondary circuit exceeds 10 mA, the fuse wire blows, and the circuit gets disconnected.

Therefore, the turn ratio of the transformer is calculated as 100. This means that the secondary coil has 100 times more turns than the primary coil, and the transformer steps up the voltage level by a factor of 100.
